Marseille

Marseille, its port and all its glory is laid out in front of you before you land.

Marseillaise Maquis

As the plane circles to land at the Marseille airport, you will see the scrub lands or the Maquis. During World War II, the French Resistance fighters against the Nazis hid out in the maquis, and became known as maquisards or simply, the Maquis.

Note the aquaduct near the shore, slightly left of center.

The French Alps

As you approach Marseille from the air, you will get a glimpse of the French Alps outside the left hand side of the aircraft.

The Yellow Fields Around Paris

I saw numerous of these yellow fields from the air, from almost the minute that we hit landfall at the French Atlantic coast. I like to think of them as huge fields of Dijon mustard.

The Heart Of Paris

If you look carefully in the lower middle of the picture, you can see the heart of Paris and the Eiffel Tower from the air.

Getting To Provence

The first leg of the journey to Provence starts with a flight to Charles de Gaulle Airport on the outskirts of Paris.
