Faded Glory -- Old Door

(click on pic for larger image)

This glass door with the lace curtain is an elegant example of faded glory.  The door knob and key hold brass is tarnished but still beautiful and exquisite.

Simplicity And Elegance

There are many striking elements of this photograph of a Provencal doorway.  First there is the ancient stone construction.  Then you have a delicate wrought iron gate with a beautiful Gothic design.  You have an aged simple doorway.  You have greenery and a tree apparently growing in the stone. You have the Provencal sun shining down.  It is a combination of simplicity and elegance.

Intriguing Ironwork over door

What blows me away is the attention to detail in the buildings in Provence.  This is a wrought iron roof over a doorway housing a light.  The attention to detail, craftsmanship and artistry on the simplest of things gives pleasure to the eye, in Provence.

Village House Door -- Les Baux-de-Provence

This is just one example of the beautiful doorways of France.  Notice particularly the security gate. It is essentially a piece of flat iron with incisions, and the incisions are peeled back to provide a decorative, yet function pattern for security.  This is a widely used pattern in Provence.
