On the Road to Eyragues

I snapped this picturesque village on the road to the village of Eyragues, with the beautiful plantane trees overhanging the roadway.
Medieval Provencal Church

A medieval church with a belltower hugs the road near Les Alpilles in Provence. Every little village has its church.
Neat Narrow Shop
An incredibly narrow shop straddles the loop back street that goes down the mountain from the village.
From The Village to the Valley
A couple walk with their dog from the village down into the valley on a sleepy Provencale road.
Remnants of World War II
In an earlier post on Victory Day, I mentioned that France suffered greatly during World War II. Here a street is named after a victim of the Nazi while France was occupied by the Germans.
Irony
It is ironic that the name of this town is translated as "Lights". Underneath the sign is the green neon light in the background, identifying a pharmacy.
Atop the Post Office
The post office is in a refurbished store in a village house. The living quarters and the quaint shuttered windows are atop the store.
Medieval Walls
At one point, this hilltop village was walled as a fortress to prevent attacks. On this road around the bend, you can see an arch through the wall. The wall has fallen down, and you can see up top where it abruptly ends.
The Blue Door
This is a laneway in a mountain-top village. The blue door is an entrance way to a village house.Sleepy sunny village lane
Medieval village lanes too narrow for cars, studded with the flowers and vines at the doors of the village houses are the hallmarks of the picturesque Provencal villages.
