Faded Glory -- Old Door

(click on pic for larger image)

This glass door with the lace curtain is an elegant example of faded glory.  The door knob and key hold brass is tarnished but still beautiful and exquisite.

Simplicity And Elegance

There are many striking elements of this photograph of a Provencal doorway.  First there is the ancient stone construction.  Then you have a delicate wrought iron gate with a beautiful Gothic design.  You have an aged simple doorway.  You have greenery and a tree apparently growing in the stone. You have the Provencal sun shining down.  It is a combination of simplicity and elegance.

Intriguing Ironwork over door

What blows me away is the attention to detail in the buildings in Provence.  This is a wrought iron roof over a doorway housing a light.  The attention to detail, craftsmanship and artistry on the simplest of things gives pleasure to the eye, in Provence.

Beautiful Wooden Doorway into Courtyard

This beautiful wooden doorway into the courtyard has greenery adorning the top of the wall.  Note the pattern of the ironwork.  The wavy design is a typical Provencal styling.

Beautiful Doorway

This gorgeous French doorway in a village house is typical of the architectural scenery that one sees in Provence.  The glorious flowers surrounding this doorway leads the mind to wonder about the interior of this house.

Another Beautiful Doorway of Provence

This is another in the series of doorways of Provence.  This is the doorway of a mas with shutters to keep the Mistral out.

Village House Door -- Les Baux-de-Provence

This is just one example of the beautiful doorways of France.  Notice particularly the security gate. It is essentially a piece of flat iron with incisions, and the incisions are peeled back to provide a decorative, yet function pattern for security.  This is a widely used pattern in Provence.

Stunning massive Doorway

This majestic doorway was installed on the lower floor of a hilltop village.  It was the only logical place for the grand entrance.  But you also needed a servants' entrance.  That is why you see the unassuming door to the left of it.

Wisteria Over a Blue Doorway

A wisteria vine hangs over a blue doorway on an ancient stone building in Provence. This pic was snapped near the village of Saignon in the Luberon valley.

Beautiful Wooden Door

A village house has an elegant wrought iron gate and a marvelous old wood door that adds charm to this residence.

Mas With Attached Chapel

A provencale manor house or mas oftentimes had an attached chapel as this one has. The little outcropping from the building is the chapel.

Doorway of Provence with Stone Mailbox

This beautiful doorway is typically French, narrow and tall with dark wood. The interesting item in the shot is the stone mailbox.

Hidden Living Spaces

Little patios, hidden nooks, flowers, doorways, bright shutters, and a barbecue are the hallmarks of these village house entrance ways.

Village Doorways Reprise

Pictured above is the door of a winery in a Provencal village. The portals and doorways are as colourful and beautiful as the landscape.
