Faded Glory -- Old Door

(click on pic for larger image)

This glass door with the lace curtain is an elegant example of faded glory.  The door knob and key hold brass is tarnished but still beautiful and exquisite.

Simplicity And Elegance

There are many striking elements of this photograph of a Provencal doorway.  First there is the ancient stone construction.  Then you have a delicate wrought iron gate with a beautiful Gothic design.  You have an aged simple doorway.  You have greenery and a tree apparently growing in the stone. You have the Provencal sun shining down.  It is a combination of simplicity and elegance.

Beautiful Wooden Door

A village house has an elegant wrought iron gate and a marvelous old wood door that adds charm to this residence.

Doorway of Provence with Stone Mailbox

This beautiful doorway is typically French, narrow and tall with dark wood. The interesting item in the shot is the stone mailbox.

Iron Gate

An iron gate closes off the lower level egress to a village house. Village house built on hills have weird inner geometries such that a doorway like this could be a main entrance. It is part of the enchantment of the buildings in Provence.

Village Doorways Reprise

Pictured above is the door of a winery in a Provencal village. The portals and doorways are as colourful and beautiful as the landscape.

Ochre Doorway of Provence

This is a continuing series of doorways of Provence. The one pictured above is on an ochre village house.

Doorway Gargoyle

An ugly gargoyle adorns the archway above the door of a village house that is now a doctor's office.

Vines at the Doorway

The previous blog posting was of old vines and irises. This is a picture of a village house doorway with an ancient thick grape vine growing at the edge of the building. The rest of the doorway entrance is a collection of potted plants to add greenery and colour to a stone village house.

Ancient Village Doors

If the doors to this village house could tell tales, they would speak of the long history and richness of the events that passed through these portals.

Sleepy sunny village lane

Medieval village lanes too narrow for cars, studded with the flowers and vines at the doors of the village houses are the hallmarks of the picturesque Provencal villages.

Rose Garland Doorway

One could publish an entire book on the doors of Provence. Here a real rose garland frames a doorway painted with a mosaic. If you click on the picture (all pictures can be enlarged by clicking on them), you will see the cats painted on the bottom of the door.
