Spray of Purple Flowers

I was walking the streets of Roussillon, the ocher town, and I spotted this spray of purple flowers.  They were growing against a stone building mortared with ocher.  The juxtaposition of the flowers and the ocher was stunning.

Lupine Flower

These lupine flowers were found growing wild in a field.  I suppose that their seeds had traveled by the wind and found themselves growing here, because they are a beautiful garden flower.  But this just shows you of the ubiquity of flowers everywhere in Provence.

Flowers Growing in the Most Improbable Places

Here, against a stone wall, atop a stone pillar, we have flowers growing.  In keeping with the comment in the last posting, flowers are definitely part of Life in Provence.  Note the flowering Judas Tree in the background.

Spring Flowers in Bonnieux

This clump of flowers was found growing in the beautiful hill-top village of Bonnieux.  There is nothing like Springtime in Provence and the bursting out of flowers all over.

Lone Flower in a Bed of Succulents

I was in the yard of a mas, looking at a typical Provencal stone sink and I saw a flowerbed with succulents.  This lone purple flower was standing out in a sea of green fingers.

Herbs and Spices of Provence -- Rosemary

Rosemary is a spice and herb grown in Provence. It is a member of the mint family and is a woody perennial often grown as a hedge. Here a bee pollinates the rosemary flower.

Purple Hyacinths in Provence

These purple hyacinths were growing in the Luberon valley, high in the hills near the village of Saignon. They are beautiful.

Wild Flowers in the Grass

I was just about to step into our Peugeot and I noticed that these wild flowers were growing in the grass on the lawn. They are quite tiny and this is a closeup. Once again, I iterate that flowers are part of the essence of Provence.

Strange Flower and Insect

I snapped this picture of the strange flower and I didn't notice the bug to the left of it. I have no idea what kind of flower it is ... or the bug for that matter.

Irises Growing on a Stone Wall

Irises grow wild against an ancient stone wall while nearby a cherry tree shades the grass. Beautiful.

Growing Near a Wall

I spotted this bunch of flowers, growing untended near a stone wall. Flowers are ubiquitous and they appear as both growing decorations and crops such as lavender and saffron. They give a civilized air to the south of France.

A Perfect Example

A perfect example about what I like about Provence. Here we have a terrace melding into a street with parked cars. Below is the lower tier of the village built on a mountainside. But in spite of the fact there is a stone retaining wall, it is lined with planters and pots of flowers. Flowers are EVERYWHERE in Provence.

Garden Greenery

This bit of garden greenery caught my eye. This isn't one flower petal, but lots of colour in this planter.

Glorious Blooms

Gloriously colourful blooms made me stop and take their picture. The flowers of Provence are ubiquitous.

A Poppy Emerges

The ubiquitous poppy growing wild adds its scarlet highlights to the colours of Provence.

Flowers Everywhere

If there is one ubiquitous thing about Provence, is that there are flowers everywhere in almost every nook and cranny.
