Vineyard Bursting With New Growth In Spring

Old vines are bursting with new growth in the spring.  Since grapes only grow on new wood, the vines are cut back right to the stumps.  New branches grow and it is on these new branches that the grapes grow.  Old wood doesn't produce grape clusters.


Spring Flowers in Bonnieux

This clump of flowers was found growing in the beautiful hill-top village of Bonnieux.  There is nothing like Springtime in Provence and the bursting out of flowers all over.

Springtime in the Olive Grove


Little olives are starting to form on the olive trees in the grove.  Provence is noted for its olive oil and olive harvests.

Spring Colors


We had just arrived at the mas that we were staying at, and I was a bit jet-lagged.  I took my camera and decided to walk around the garden.  It was spring time.  I saw this pretty arrangement of colors, flowers and foliage that fascinated me.  It was a visual treat for the eyes.

Spring in Les Alpilles

Les Alpilles are the limestone mountains of southern Provence.  They are not as high as mountains go, but they have a stark beauty.  The wild flowers and herbs grow on the hills perfuming the air in the spring time.

One of the surest signs of spring in Provence is cherry blossom time. This cherry orchard is awash with the fragrant blossoms of spring and cherries.
