In the previous entry, I showed a wild flower bush against a peak of Les Alpilles.  Here is a closeup of those flowers.  Obviously the bees love them for the nectar.

Spring in Les Alpilles

Les Alpilles are the limestone mountains of southern Provence.  They are not as high as mountains go, but they have a stark beauty.  The wild flowers and herbs grow on the hills perfuming the air in the spring time.

One of the nicest things about Provence, is that beautiful flowers grow everywhere, including in the wild.  These blossoms are actually weeds growing in a horse pasture that added colour to a beautiful spring evening.  The grasses, sedges and flowers freshen the air and the scents lay like a beautiful perfume over the evening air.

I was just about to step into our Peugeot and I noticed that these wild flowers were growing in the grass on the lawn. They are quite tiny and this is a closeup. Once again, I iterate that flowers are part of the essence of Provence.

Strange Flower and Insect

I snapped this picture of the strange flower and I didn't notice the bug to the left of it. I have no idea what kind of flower it is ... or the bug for that matter.

Irises Growing on a Stone Wall

Irises grow wild against an ancient stone wall while nearby a cherry tree shades the grass. Beautiful.

Growing Near a Wall

I spotted this bunch of flowers, growing untended near a stone wall. Flowers are ubiquitous and they appear as both growing decorations and crops such as lavender and saffron. They give a civilized air to the south of France.

Yellow Flowered Bush

I was in the country taking a late afternoon walk among the vineyards along a quiet road. I came upon these bushes growing wild, just ablaze with yellow flowers.

A beetle finds refuge in the petals of a wild flower.

A Poppy Emerges

The ubiquitous poppy growing wild adds its scarlet highlights to the colours of Provence.

Irises and Orchards

Irises grow wild in a cherry orchard. The scene is remniscent of a Van Gogh painting called "Irises" which was painted in Arles.

Flowers and Bees

Flowers, flowers everywhere in Provence. There are wild flowers, cultivated flowers, exotic flowers, and flowers of every description. Here a bee busily gathers nectar for honey.
